The Abereistedd in Criccieth is ideally situated between the coast and mountains, and within easy reach of many of the best attractions in North Wales. Here are some of them: -

Plas Glyn y Weddw is an art gallery at Llanbedrog, near Pwllheli. It has a constant programme of exhibitions, and a very nice tea room/cafe. The beach at Llanbedrog is also well worth a visit.

Lloyd George Museum, Llanystumdwy - items from the former Prime minister's life, films about Lloyd George, a Victorian schoolroom and more.

Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Blaenau Ffestiniog. Explore an old mining village, and enjoy two exciting underground rides.

National Slate Museum, Llanberis. Free entry to this iconic museum. See how slate miners worked and lived, with live demonstrations of slate cutting and splitting. On certain days, visit the Miner's Hospital, and see the primitive medical care available for the miners!

Electric Mountain, also in Llanberis. Visit a hydro-electric power station built inside a mountain!

More attractions in Llanberis include the Padarn Lake Railway, and the world-famous Snowdon Mountain Railway.

Whether you are a fan or not of the sixties TV series The Prisoner, a visit to Portmeirion is highly advised. A full day can be spent exploring the amazing Italianate village and extensive grounds.

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways add up to in excess of 50 miles of narrow gauge railway, with stunning views of Snowdonia.

The National Trust have a large collection of houses and gardens in North Wales, most just a short drive from Criccieth.

Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech are three of the finest castles in North Wales, all well worth a visit.
